We are running an Advanced Techniques Master Class (ATMC) from Monday 11th February through to Friday 22nd February 2019 at the Dunstone Design workshop, 3/5 Aurora Pl, Queanbeyan. The ATMC will be run by Evan Dunstone with craftsman Alex MacFarlane and William Bayliss.
The Stork Hall table is one of Dunstone Design’s best loved designs. The configuration can be scaled up or down in length, height and width to suit a range of spaces. The design has visual tension, is wonderfully sturdy and makes excellent use of material. This design is ideal for showing off beautiful timber and fine craftsmanship.
This course is ideal for the intermediate/experienced woodworker who is seeking to take their skills up to the next level. The course will run 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday over a two-week period. The course is limited to 6 students. Evan Dunstone and his workshop manager Alex MacFarlane will be leading the class with assistance from William Bayliss.
Students are welcome to bring their own timber for the project or to buy suitable stock from Dunstone Design. Once you have booked you place, Evan will be in touch with a cutting list to discuss material. Please note that the course price does not include timber.
A range of hand tools will be available but students are encouraged to bring their own core tools, as there will be opportunities to tune and adjust equipment over the course of the two weeks. As a minimum, we suggest that you bring your own marking out tools. Dunstone Design is not a “normal” teaching workshop. We are contemporary fine furniture makers who occasionally teach, not teachers who occasionally make some contemporary fine furniture.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided throughout the duration of the course.
You will be working on your own Stork Hall table in the timber of your choice. You will use (under strict and professional supervision) a wide range of machines including a Martin T45 thicknesser, a Centauro band resaw with power feed, an SCM spindle moulder, a wide belt sander and many other machines and techniques. You will experience professional level jigs and work to 0.1mm accuracy. You will learn many tricks of the trade and get an insight in to how to design for production and how to plan workflow.
This is a valuable investment for any aspiring professional or semi-professional wood worker, any teacher wishing to expand your skills base or any aspiring furniture designer. It will be of great benifit to any enthusiast or serious hobby woodworker.
Classes run 9am to 4pm, Monday 11th to Friday 22th of February, 2019. Morning tea will run 10:30am to 11am and Lunch 1pm to 1:30pm. Food and good coffee/tea will be provided. You will need to bring your own PPE- a good dust mask, good hearing protection and good eye protection. Wear old, suitable clothing as you will get dirty!
This course is designed for intermediate to advanced wood workers. If you are unsure about your skill level, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0401 404 275 to discuss.
The class is limited to 6 students. There will be group activities, but unlike the Production Materclass you will have the opportunity to branch off into areas of personal interest.

Timber Types: The Timber of your choice.
Just a short note to thank you for the masterclass last week. The course was excellent, the teaching from you and Alex was first rate, and the atmosphere was positive and encouraging to all that attended.
The course very clearly showed how to take a designer/maker one off item and undertake small batch production without any loss of quality or craftsmanship. It also helped show what it takes to run a high quality furniture making business, and the need for continuously improving how things are done to enhance efficiency of operation and thus financial viability.
I would highly recommend this course to both the designer/maker wanting to understand batch production, and the amateur maker just wanting to understand how a successful furniture business functions.
Thanks again and good luck with your future courses.”- Ian S. 2018
