The Academic chair was originally commissioned by a Canberra based Professor of Classical History. She required a study chair for her home office that “made her want to go to work in the morning”.

The Academic is the ancestor of both the Cascade rocker and the Werriwa lounge chair. Many of the shapes and elements that you see in those later chairs were informed by the Academic chair. The chair won Australian Wood Review magazine's  “Fine Furniture” award in 2004 and set the standard in comfort for all Dunstone Design chairs. It is Evan's favorite chair to sit in when he is at shows around the country.

Dimensions: 1010mm H x 625mm W x 665mm D
Timber Types: blackwood (pictured) or jarrah. Other timbers available on request (POA).
"The late Professor Beryl Rawson, who originally commissioned this piece, took quite a leap of faith. The Academic was unlike any of my previous designs. Professor Rawson's house was full of furniture by Gordon Russel, David Upfil-Brown and Hans Wegner; talk about being under pressure to perform!" - Evan Dunstone.
