Shipping and delivery information

A sound understanding of hand tools is the foundation to good woodworking. People often make the mistake of jumping to machines too early, missing the all-important lessons about the material that the “feedback” from hand tools gives you. This course is designed to get you “in the groove” with your hand tools.

Anthony Powell has always been a passionate woodworking enthusiast. When the opportunity to aquire the rights to Lie Nielsen in Australia presented itself, he and his wife Venita jumped at it. Although Anthony is a “Lie Nielson” man, he loves all quality hand tools. His personal tool kit includes other quality brands such as Australia’s HNT Gordon, Colen Clenton and Vesper Tools. Although Anthony will have tools available for purchase, this is his idea of a holiday! He wants to share some knowledge and his joy of the craft with you (and so do I!).

This course uses our well-known Beta Stool Kit as an excuse to use hand tools. You will saw, plane, chisel and slice your way though to making a wonderful stool. There will be lots of digressions, demonstrations and theory along the way.

What to Bring

We encourage you to bring your favourite hand tools. One of the aims of this course is to tune up your own tools and help you to understand them. We will supply any tools that you don’t have.

Please bring your own PPE- a good dust mask, good hearing protection and good eye protection. You will be getting dirty, so wear old clothes.

It could get very hot in January, so be ready to sweat. We have industrial fans but no airconditioning.

This course is designed for beginners, intermediate and even advanced wood workers. If you are unsure about your skill level, email evan@dunstonedesign.com or call 0401 404 275 to discuss.

Class size
The class is limited to 8 students. Anthony and Evan will be teaching. Alex MacFarlane will be working on “normal” Dunstone Design production in the background, while William Bayliss will be off in Nelson at the CFW with Michael Fortune.
